Before anything is treated for appearance, it should be assessed for what it actually is. We provide the medical assessment, honest advice about what is achievable, and referral where a procedure is appropriate.

A lesion you dislike the look of still needs to be identified before anyone treats it.
Cosmetic consultations at a general practice start with a clinical assessment. A mole you want removed because it catches on clothing, a growth that has appeared on your face, or pigmentation that bothers you all need to be examined and identified before any decision about treatment.
Why that order matters
Removing or treating a lesion for appearance without first establishing what it is can delay the diagnosis of a skin cancer. Our GPs examine lesions with dermoscopy as a matter of course, and if anything looks suspicious the conversation changes from cosmetic to medical — and so does the funding.
Good to know
If a lesion turns out to be medically significant, its assessment and removal are bulk billed. Only genuinely cosmetic work carries a fee.

What we can do here
Assessment and identification of skin lesions, removal of benign lesions such as skin tags and seborrhoeic keratoses where they are catching or irritating, cryotherapy, minor excision of benign lumps, and advice on scar management, sun damage and skin care.

What we refer on
Injectables, laser and light-based treatments, and any significant cosmetic surgery are performed elsewhere. We will refer you to appropriately qualified practitioners and can tell you what questions to ask them. We do not take commissions and have no financial interest in who you choose.

Realistic expectations
Every procedure that breaks the skin leaves a mark. Part of this appointment is an honest conversation about what a result will actually look like, how long recovery takes, and whether doing nothing is a reasonable option. Sometimes it is.

The medical assessment is bulk billed. Treatment carried out purely for appearance is not rebated by Medicare and attracts a private fee, quoted before anything is booked.

Standard GP consultations at Toongabbie Doctors are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to see your doctor.
Assessment and identification of any skin lesion is bulk billed for eligible patients.
If a lesion proves medically significant, its removal is bulk billed rather than charged as cosmetic.
Purely cosmetic procedures carry a private fee, always quoted in advance and never added afterwards.

No. We assess, advise and refer to appropriately qualified practitioners. We have no financial arrangement with anyone we refer to.
Not if it is removed purely for appearance. If assessment shows it is medically significant, removal is bulk billed. The examination itself is always bulk billed.
It depends on the lesion, the site and the time required. You will be given a specific quote at the assessment before anything is booked.
Yes, to some degree, with any procedure that breaks the skin. Your GP will describe the likely mark honestly before you decide.
