Telehealth keeps you connected to the practice that knows your history, without the trip in.
Telehealth is a consultation with your GP by phone or video instead of in the consulting room. At Toongabbie Doctors it is delivered by the same doctors you see in person, with full access to your records, so nothing is lost between visits.
Who is eligible
Medicare bulk bills telehealth for patients who have had a face-to-face appointment with our practice in the previous twelve months. Children under twelve months, patients experiencing homelessness and some other groups are exempt from this rule. Reception can confirm your eligibility when you book.

What works well by telehealth
Discussing test results, repeat prescriptions for stable conditions, mental health follow-up, medical certificates when you are unwell at home, reviewing a treatment you have started, and questions that do not need an examination.
Good to know
If your doctor thinks you need to be examined, they will ask you to come in. Telehealth is a complement to in-person care, not a replacement.

What needs an in-person visit
New or severe pain, anything that needs a physical examination, procedures, vaccinations, cervical screening, children who are unwell, and first appointments for a new problem. If you have chest pain, difficulty breathing or another emergency, call 000.

Standard GP consultations at Toongabbie Doctors are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to see your doctor.
Patients who have not visited in the last twelve months may need an in-person appointment first, or pay a private fee.
Video consultations need a smartphone or computer with a camera and internet connection; phone is always available.
Your doctor may ask you to come in if an examination is needed.

Yes, for patients with a valid Medicare card who have had a face-to-face appointment with Toongabbie Doctors in the previous twelve months. Reception will confirm eligibility when you book.
Either works for most telehealth needs. Video helps when your doctor wants to see something, such as a rash or a wound. Choose whichever you are comfortable with.
Yes, when your doctor assesses you as unfit for work or study. Book on the day you are unwell, as certificates are not backdated.
Your doctor will usually try again within a few minutes. If you miss the appointment entirely, call reception to rebook.
Medicare generally requires a face-to-face visit with our practice first. Book an in-person appointment and telehealth will then be available to you for the next twelve months.
