We hold appointments back every morning and every afternoon for people who wake up unwell. Bulk billed for Medicare card holders, seven days a week, with parking right outside at Toongabbie Point.

A same-day appointment is a standard GP consultation booked for the day you call. It is intended for problems that have come on recently or changed suddenly: fevers, sore throats, ear pain, chest infections, urinary symptoms, rashes, minor injuries, vomiting, and anything that worries you enough that waiting feels wrong.
How our day is structured
Our doctors do not fill every slot in advance. A portion of each session is kept aside so that patients who become unwell overnight or during the day can still be seen. Those slots open on HotDoc in the morning and are released again through the afternoon, so if nothing is showing at 8am it is worth looking again later or calling reception.

If you cannot find a slot online, call (02) 7813 6000. Reception can see appointments that are not published and will tell you honestly what the wait looks like.

What a same-day appointment covers
The same consultation you would get at any other time: history, examination, a diagnosis or a plan to reach one, treatment, and a script or referral where needed. If you need a swab, a blood test or an ECG, those can usually be organised in the same visit, with 4Cyte Pathology in the same centre.

When it needs to be an emergency department instead
Chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, a suspected stroke, a head injury with vomiting or drowsiness, or a child who is floppy, unrousable or having trouble breathing all need emergency care. Call 000 or go to Westmead Hospital. Do not wait for a GP appointment.

Bringing a family member
If two people in a household are unwell, please book two appointments. One appointment covers one patient. Reception will do their best to place you back to back so you only make one trip.

Standard GP consultations at Toongabbie Doctors are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to see your doctor.
Bulk billed for Medicare card holders, including same-day and after-hours weekend slots.
Patients without a Medicare card are welcome; reception will explain the private fee before you are seen.
If you do not attend and do not cancel, the slot is lost to someone who needed it — please let us know.
Common questions.
What patients ask about getting in on the day.
Yes, when a doctor is free. Booking online or calling first is always faster, because it means we can tell you whether there is a wait before you leave home.
Reception opens with the clinic and same-day slots move quickly in winter. Calling in the first hour gives you the widest choice, but new slots also open through the day.
We try, but the doctor with availability may not be your regular GP. All three GPs have full access to your record, so nothing is lost either way.
We are open seven days. Weekend sessions are shorter and fill faster, so book early if you can.
Call us. Reception keeps a small number of slots off the online system and can also advise whether your problem is safe to wait on or needs an emergency department.
