Sexually transmitted infections
Many STIs have no symptoms, so regular testing is recommended for anyone who is sexually active, especially with a new partner. Testing is a simple urine sample, swab or blood test, collected on site at 4Cyte Pathology. If a result is positive, your GP arranges treatment, explains how to tell partners and can refer for specialist care where needed. HPV vaccination is available for eligible patients.

Contraception
There is no single right method for everyone. Your GP talks through the pill, the contraceptive implant, injections, hormonal and copper IUDs, the vaginal ring, condoms and permanent options, explaining how each works, its effectiveness and side effects, and helps you choose. Emergency contraception is available; book as soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours.

Long-acting methods such as the implant and IUD are highly effective and reversible, and mean you do not need to remember a daily pill.

Planning a pregnancy
Pre-conception checks for both partners, including immunity, folate and other supplements, review of medicines, cycle tracking and advice on when to seek fertility help. Pregnancy tests and early pregnancy care are provided on site.

Other concerns
Painful sex, low libido, erectile difficulties, vaginal or penile symptoms, and sexual health after menopause or prostate treatment are all common and treatable. Our GPs also support LGBTQIA+ patients with respectful, inclusive care.

Common questions about sexual health.
Yes. What you discuss stays between you and your doctor unless you consent to sharing it or there is a serious safety concern. Young people aged 14 and over can usually consent to their own care.
If you are sexually active with new or multiple partners, testing every six to twelve months is recommended, or sooner if you have symptoms or a partner tests positive. Your GP can advise.
It depends on your health, lifestyle and plans. Long-acting methods like the implant and IUD are the most effective reversible options. Your GP will help you weigh up the choices.
As soon as possible. The emergency pill works best within 72 hours, and some options work up to five days. Call reception and ask for a same-day appointment.
