Screening at a glance.

Regular checks find problems early, often before you notice anything. Your GP will tailor these to your history, but this is the general guide for women in Australia.

Screening intervals follow Australian national program guidelines and may differ if you have symptoms, a family history or previous abnormal results. Your GP will advise what is right for you.

Your questions, answered.

Common questions about women's health appointments at Toongabbie Doctors. For fees and practice policies, see the patient information page.

Yes. Standard consultations, cervical screening, contraception advice, pregnancy checks and menopause appointments are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card, so there is no out-of-pocket cost. Some vaccines and devices are purchased privately; reception will tell you about any cost before your appointment.

Yes. Dr Zainab Shirazi consults Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and focuses on women's health. You are welcome to request her when you book online or by phone.

The Cervical Screening Test replaced the two-yearly Pap smear. It is done every five years for women aged 25 to 74 and looks for the HPV virus. You can choose to collect the sample yourself using a simple swab in a private room, or your doctor can collect it.

If you would like to discuss several things, are starting or changing contraception, or want to talk through menopause options, a long appointment gives us more time. Ask reception for a long appointment when you book; it is still bulk billed.

Yes. We confirm and monitor early pregnancy, arrange routine tests and vaccinations, and provide antenatal shared care with your hospital so many of your visits can happen close to home at Toongabbie Point. After birth we see you and your baby for postnatal checks.

That is very common and completely understandable. Our doctors explain each step before it happens, you can stop at any time, and you are welcome to bring a support person. Nothing needs to happen in a first visit that you are not comfortable with.

Yes. Toongabbie Doctors is a family practice and children are welcome in the consulting room. If you would prefer time on your own, let reception know and we will do our best to arrange it.

Reception will contact you if your doctor needs to see you about a result. For cervical screening you will also receive a letter from the National Cancer Screening Register. You can always book a follow-up or telehealth appointment to discuss results.
