ECG (electrocardiogram)
A quick, non-invasive five-minute recording of your heart's electrical activity using small stickers on your chest, arms and legs. Your GP uses it to investigate palpitations, chest pain, dizziness and breathlessness, to check heart rhythm and as part of health assessments. It is performed in our treatment room and read by your doctor the same day.

Spirometry (lung function test)
You breathe into a mouthpiece as hard and fast as you can, several times, to measure how much air your lungs hold and how quickly you can move it. Spirometry helps diagnose and monitor asthma and COPD and guides inhaler treatment. Avoid using reliever inhalers for a few hours beforehand unless your GP says otherwise.

Pathology and blood tests
4Cyte Pathology collects blood, urine and other samples inside Toongabbie Doctors. Opening hours are Monday 8am to 2pm, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am to 12pm, and Wednesday and Saturday 8am to 1pm. Most tests do not need an appointment; bring your request form and Medicare card. Fasting tests are best done first thing in the morning.

Standard GP consultations at Toongabbie Doctors are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to see your doctor.
A small number of specialised pathology tests are not covered by Medicare; 4Cyte advises you before collection.
Imaging is bulk billed at providers that bulk bill; your GP can recommend local options.
Results are only released to you by your doctor, not by the laboratory.

No, for most tests. Bring your request form and Medicare card to 4Cyte Pathology inside Toongabbie Doctors during their opening hours. Some special tests are by appointment; 4Cyte will let you know.
Only if your GP or the form says so, usually for cholesterol or glucose tests. Fasting means no food or drink other than water for the time specified, usually eight to twelve hours.
Results are sent to your GP. Reception contacts you if your doctor needs to see you. You can book a follow-up appointment or telehealth call to discuss any result.
It records your heart's electrical activity to check rhythm and look for signs of strain or past damage. It is non-invasive and takes about five minutes.
Yes. 4Cyte collects from children. Let them know your child's age when you arrive so they can allow extra time.
